ONE Inner Circle: Ruotolo Targets Fourth Straight MMA Win Against Tetsuka

Kade Ruotolo has unfinished business in MMA. The 23-year-old American, widely considered one of the most gifted submission grapplers of his generation, makes his long-awaited return to MMA action at The Inner Circle on Friday, May 15, facing Japanese veteran Hiroyuki Tetsuka in a lightweight bout streaming live on live.onefc.com.

With a 29-3 overall BJJ record and three consecutive first-round submission wins in MMA, Ruotolo had built a solid case for himself as one of the sport's most exciting crossover athletes.

Then, just days after his victory over Nicolas Vigna in February 2025, a serious injury brought everything to a halt. Now, after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, the young American is ready to pick up exactly where he left off.

"I think it's pretty obvious he's got a very strong frame, so he's an explosive and strong fighter. He's got some density in his punches it looks like, like hitting the body and the head as well with that overhand," Ruotolo detailed.

Standing across from him is Tetsuka, who brings a 15-6 professional MMA record and a 7-3 promotional record to the ring. His most recent win came against the legendary Shinya Aoki.

Ruotolo has done his homework on Tetsuka thoroughly, and the way his opponent handled a dangerous grappler like Aoki only reinforced how seriously he is approaching this contest.

"Shinya Aoki was able to get him down, but he stayed calm and found the exit. Shinya is arguably one of the best jiu-jitsu guys to do it in MMA. So he's got striking, he's got some grappling, it's gonna be a tough scrap guaranteed," he said.

The submission grappling god has never been short on weapons, and he is fully aware that the path to victory on May 15 could open up in ways his opponent might not anticipate.

"I wouldn't be surprised at all in the midst of me trying to take him down and get him to the ground, I land a big shot, big head kick or whatever like that," Ruotolo explained.
