Khamzat Chimaev might be out to knock out Nate Diaz at UFC 279 but he has mad respect for his opponent.
Speaking to MacLife recently in an interview, Khamzat Chimaev revealed that he grew up as a fan of Nate Diaz. He also gave props to Nate Diaz for being a warrior.
“Yeah of course it’s nice to fight with that guy. When I was kid, young boy, I looked up to that guy, other guys. It’s nice to see them in the cage as well with me. Like somebody who you looked up [to]. He’s a warrior. Nobody can take from him. He comes to fight until the last second. Like he said always, kill or to be killed. He’s doing all the time. Respect for him to take the fight, it’s a bad fight for him. You have to give him respect,” Khamzat Chimaev noted in the interview.
Khamzat is currently undefeated in his professional MMA career and holds a record of 11-0 to his name. The 28-year-old has 6 KO/TKO wins, 4 submissions and 1 decision win to his name. Fighting out of Sweden, Khamzat made his UFC debut back in 2020 against John Phillips.

He then fought Rhys McKee, Gerald Meerschaert and Jingliang Li and secured stoppage win in all the fights. At UFC 273, Khamzat fought Gilbert Burns which happened to be his first professional fight that went to the distance.
As for Nate Diaz, he is 20-13 in his professional MMA career with 16 finishes to his name. the 37-year-old Stockton native fights out of Cesar Gracie Fight Team and is on a two-fight losing streak at the moment having lost to Leon Edwards and Jorge Masvidal. His last win came against Anthony Pettis back in 2019.
