Mikey Musumeci, ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion, Set to Return Against Top MMA Fighter
ONE Championship fans can look forward to the long-awaited comeback of Mikey Musumeci, the reigning ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Champion, as he prepares to defend his title against one of the world's top mixed martial artists.
On Friday, August 4, "Darth Rigatoni" will put his coveted belt on the line in a co-main event clash against strawweight MMA king, Jarred Brooks. This high-stakes showdown will take place during ONE Fight Night 13: Allazov vs. Grigorian, which will be broadcast live in primetime from Bangkok's legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.
Musumeci, widely regarded as one of the greatest American-born Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in history, has clinched an impressive five IBJJF World Titles as a black belt. He has earned a reputation as the most skilled and technically proficient pound-for-pound BJJ competitor in the sport today.
Since joining ONE Championship, Musumeci has lived up to his esteemed reputation, securing a submission victory over Japanese leglock legend Masakazu Imanari in his promotional debut back in April 2022. In a historic feat, he later defeated his long-standing rival Cleber Sousa in a trilogy match, earning himself the inaugural ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Title.
Displaying his dominance, Musumeci successfully defended his crown twice by defeating sambo star Gantumur Bayanduuren via unanimous decision in January and submitting the 2022 IBJJF World Champion Osamah Almarwai in May. These victories have propelled his career record to an impressive 61-5.
Now, Musumeci is geared up for his third defence of the ONE Flyweight Submission Grappling World Title. However, his opponent, Jarred Brooks, presents a unique challenge as a skilled MMA fighter.
Brooks has showcased his exceptional skills and remarkable cardio throughout his professional career, particularly impressed with his outstanding grappling expertise. Since joining ONE Championship, he has defeated renowned opponents such as Bokang Masunyane, Hiroba Minowa, and knockout artist Lito Adiwang, earning a spot at the top of the rankings. In December, he reached the pinnacle of his career by claiming the ONE Strawweight MMA World Title with a resounding victory over Joshua Pacio.
At ONE Fight Night 13, Brooks, a former 2012 Indiana State Wrestling Champion, will have the opportunity to cement his status as a two-sport king and prove that his grappling prowess is indeed the best of the best
