Tokyo Olympic Medallist Lovlina Borgohain added another medal to her resume last day as she won gold at the National Games 2022.
Lovlina went up against former World Championship Silver Medallist Saweety Boora in the 75KG Women’s Final. The Assamese boxer managed to put on a dominant performance in the match and secured a 5-0 win to clinch the gold medal.
Interestingly, this is the first medal for Lovlina after her move to Middleweight. She had also entered the tournament at the last minute which adds to her win. The Olympic Medallist is all set to compete at Middleweight internationally at the Asian Championships which is set to happen in Amman soon.
Elsewhere, Simranjit Kaur also secured a gold medal in the National Games. Simranjit went up against Jaismine Lamboria in the finals of the Women’s 60 KG category. Jaismine came into the fight on the back of making history after being the first-ever Indian female boxer to be inducted into the Indian Army.
Jaismine, however, could not outclass Simranjit who cruised into a 4-0 victory to take home the gold medal.
Sanjeet and Naveen Kumar delivered a show for the boxing fans as they competed in the finals of the 92 KG Men’s category. Both Sanjeet and Naveen started bleeding midway through the fight and it was Sanjeet that came out on top after the rounds as he won 5-0 to win the gold medal.
As for the team standings, Services won five out of the possible eight gold medals in the men’s categories. In the Women’s Categories, Assam and Haryana came out on top with two gold medals each. Apart from Lovlina, Ankushita Bora also secured a gold medal for Assam in the Women’s category. For Haryana, Minakshi and Poonam secured Gold Medals.
