Olympic bronze medalist and world champion Lovlina Borgohain clinched the gold medal in the 75kg division at the Elite Women’s Boxing Tournament 2025, which wrapped up Tuesday at the Saroornagar Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad.
Lovlina secured the top podium spot after her final opponent, Lashu Yadav, withdrew from the bout, handing the Assam boxer a walkover victory.
In the 51kg division, two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen settled for silver after withdrawing from the final against Jyoti due to injury. Jyoti was awarded the gold in her absence.
The four-day national tournament featured competition across 10 weight categories and brought together elite Indian boxers and emerging talent from across the country. Gold and silver medalists in each weight class earned selection to the elite national camp in Patiala.
Commonwealth Games and world champion Nitu Ghanghas earned a 4-1 split-decision victory over Chanchal in the 48kg final, while fellow world champion Saweety Boora dominated her 80kg final against Alfiya with a 5-0 unanimous win.
Olympian Preeti Pawar emerged victorious in the 54kg category, defeating Tanu in the final. Former youth world champion Ankushita Boro secured gold in the 65kg division with a strong showing.
Babirojsana Chanu delivered a decisive 5-0 win over Kamaljeet Kaur in the 57kg final. Other gold medal winners included Prachi (60kg), Ritika (80+kg), and Shivani of Delhi (70kg), each earning clear victories in their respective finals.
The tournament served as a critical selection and evaluation platform for India’s core group of boxers ahead of the upcoming World Boxing Championships in Liverpool and the World Boxing Cup Finals in New Delhi.
