Leon Edwards not interested in a super-fight with Israel Adesanya

Leon Edwards, the current UFC welterweight champion, recently discussed the prospect of a super fight with Israel Adesanya, one of the organization's most dominant figures.

Edwards was questioned about the potential fight and whether he would be interested in facing "Izzy" in the cage during a recent interview with Sky Sports.

Despite acknowledging Israel Adesanya's strong resume and commanding abilities, "Rocky" was ambivalent about the prospect of a super-fight between the two.

He emphasised that his goal is to retain his welterweight championship and maintain his dominance in the category, but he also ruled out any future plans to challenge the middleweight champion:

"I'm very impressed, because like a take away the fight from it right it's more just the mental part of it to have someone that not to act twice. Beat you in a different sport, came to your new sport beat you again everyone's saying oh this guy is like your Kryptonite. Just mentally as a fighter that plays a part in it you know so for him [Israel Adesanya] to go out there stay calm cool and collected and go out there and finish it the way you did. Yeah I'm happy for him,” Edwards said in the interview.  

Edwards, however, is not interested in a showdown with Adesanya in the future.

"No, not really. No probably not like I said I wish him well and what he's doing and that's it,” he said.

Adesanya recaptured the UFC Middleweight title with a win over Alex Pereira in the main event of UFC 287. He then launched an attack on Dricus Du Plessis which seem to be the road ahead for Adesanya.

The South African has also hit back at Adesanya leading to some trash talk between the two.
