Leg Kicks, Transformers, And A World Title Shot: The Legatron Nickname Story

Rungrawee Sitsongpeenong has one of the most distinctive nicknames in combat sports. The story behind "Legatron” is even better than the name itself.

The 30-year-old Thai striker carries that name into the biggest fight of his career on April 10, when he challenges reigning ONE Lightweight Muay Thai World Champion Regian Eersel for the vacant ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Title in the main event of The Inner Circle, live on onefc.com.

The origin story is as straightforward as the man himself.

"I got the name from the son of my gym boss, Mr. Tim. He saw how powerful my left kick was. At the time, he was into Transformers movies, so he came up with 'Legatron.' It's basically a mashup of 'Leg' and 'Megatron.' It fits my aggressive kicking style perfectly," Rungrawee said.

The process of choosing it was even simpler. Rungrawee had no particular vision for what his nickname should be, so he handed the decision entirely to the person asking.

"He asked me what I wanted my nickname to be, and I told him, 'I don't know, you pick!' So he chose 'Legatron.' That was right when I started fighting in ONE, around early 2023," he said.

From that moment, the name stuck and then grew into something larger. Rungrawee began his ONE career with three consecutive victories, built a reputation on leg kicks that have made opponents think twice about engaging, and earned his place among the division's most dangerous contenders.

His most recent outing delivered a unanimous decision win over Youssef Assouik, keeping his momentum firmly intact heading into this title shot.

Across a 158-48 career record and a 6-2 ONE record, the fighter from Ubon Ratchathani province who once worked in cassava fields and rice paddies to support his family has built himself into a legitimate ONE World Title challenger through pure dedication and devastating technique.

The nickname, he says, captured all of it from the very beginning.

"I loved it immediately! It perfectly describes who I am as a fighter — someone with the kicking power of a robot. It's become my trademark, and it's how fans recognize me now," Rungrawee said.
