ONE Fight Night 4: Abbasov vs. Lee goes down on Saturday, 19 November, when The Home of Martial Arts returns to the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

In the main event, reigning ONE Welterweight World Champion Kiamrian Abbasov defends his belt against ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian Lee.

After unsuccessfully challenging Reinier de Ridder for his ONE Middleweight World Title, Abbasov is returning to his weight class to try and hold back Lee from reaching double-champ status.

“I did not expect Christian,” Abbasov said. “It is a surprise. I was expecting to get a fight with Murad Ramazanov. But I’m very glad I don’t have to fight my [fellow Russian]. It is even better for me.

“Christian is a good opponent. He is a good, explosive fighter, but I know his weaknesses and I am not a guy from his division – the rules are different here.”

Lee will soon find himself in the very same shoes that Abbasov found himself in earlier this year when he attempted to become a two-division champion. Despite coming up short, the “Brazen” one knows the challenges that moving up a weight category consist of.

However, the challenge will be new to Lee, but the Russian standout will not be relaxed against the lightweight king at ONE Fight Night 4.

“When I was moving up a level, I lacked some skills, which I am working hard on now,” Abbasov said.

“Everybody has a chance. This is going to be the type of a fight where you cannot predict anything, and you definitely cannot underestimate your opponent. It is all about character, willpower, and determination. We will see if he can show it in the cage. I am ready.”

Abbasov knows his skill set and discipline are what have allowed him to remain a force in the welterweight division.

The Russian is aware of the multitude of skills his fellow champion possesses, though. But should Lee wish to partake in a slugfest, Abbasov is willing to follow suit.

“As you know, I prefer not to rely only on my wrestling. If he will feel like trading punches, he is welcome. That is what we like to do,” he said.

“But if he feels brave enough to wrestle then I can take him to deep waters, and we will see who has more oxygen.”
