The Singapore Indoor Stadium will play host to ONE Fight Night 4: Abbasov vs. Lee on Saturday, 19 November, and feature a clash of champions in the main event.

Kiamrian Abbasov returns to defend his ONE Welterweight World Championship against reigning ONE Lightweight World Champion Christian Lee, who is going for a second belt.

Abbasov’s fighting prowess has led him to great things in the ONE Circle at welterweight. However, in order to retain his title against the Singaporean star, Abbasov must implement these three keys to victory.

Control the Distance

Abbasov may be the bigger of the two athletes entering the contest, but Lee is very fast-paced, agile, and athletic. In order to keep the fight in his favor, the Russian will have to stay in control of the distance.

If he loses control of the distance, his opportunities will become lesser. Lee will likely have the speed advantage with entries and exits in and out of the pocket. This is where Abbasov will have to keep the jabs active to control each round.

Exercise Patience

If there’s one undeniable and admirable factor about the Russian’s fighting antics, it’s his patience. His heart is never questionable, as seen in his last welterweight outing against James Nakashima, who didn’t let Abbasov have things his way all the time.

Ultimately, Abbasov picked his moment very well to counter the American and score the TKO stoppage in the fourth round. Lee will provide a similar threat as Nakashima in terms of his output and ability to mix up his striking and grappling. So, Abbasov should remain cautious of Lee, using his experience to not rush into encounters.

Stay Wary of Lee’s Pressure

A key component of Lee’s game is his ability to pressure a fighter with strikes and his complete mixed martial arts skill set. If allowed, Lee will swarm and have his opponents trying to recover from his output.

The Russian champion will have to remain composed when "The Warrior” comes straight across the Circle toward him, and he cannot allow the forward motion of Lee to dissuade him from attempting to implement his own strategy.

If Abbasov can maintain his mindset and get past the flurries that Lee is sure to put forward, he may just find his path to victory.
