Former UFC Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has criticized Khamzat Chimaev for not surrounding himself with Muslims. Reacting to the recent weigh-in issues that Khamzat had ahead of UFC 279, Khabib noted that Khabib should have good people around him.
“If you are a Muslim, you should have good people around you, Muslims who can say: ‘Hey, don’t do this’. I recently watched the weigh-in of Khamzat Chimaev. I followed what was happening with his weight and looked at his team. There are no Muslims around him and this is very bad. Because if you are a Muslim, you need good, strong people around you. [They] will say: ‘Come back, do this.’ When you become famous and rich, when you gain power and there are no people who will give advice or you do not listen to them, then something will happen. You need good people, even if you don’t like it, you need them,” Khabib said during a recent appearance (h/t by Bloody Elbow).

Khamzat was scheduled to fight Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 279 but the fight did not go through as Khamzat came more than eight pounds over the Welterweight limit. Khamzat was subsequently moved to the co-main event where he fought Kevin Holland in a Middleweight bout.
Nate Diaz, meanwhile, went on to fight Tony Ferguson in the main-event of UFC 279 and secured a win and completed his UFC contract. Khamzat was also involved in a backstage altercation ahead of UFC 279 which had made headlines.
