Kelvin Gastelum is targeting a rematch with UFC Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Gastelum revealed the same on his YouTube channel after his win at UFC 287.

The former contender for the interim Middleweight title engaged Chris Curtis in combat, winning by unanimous decision to end Curtis' two-fight losing streak.

Since his first and only attempt at UFC gold against the current champion, Israel Adesanya, in April 2019, Gastelum had only won twice in six fights. The following evening, Adesanya won the division's championship back after knocking off Alex Pereira in the second round.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Gastelum noted that it is a fight that fans would love to see.

“We got the win, mission accomplished for now. I’m back on my feet. This is like I said, the renaissance of K.G. ... I’m ready to take it to another level. I’m ready to go all the way this time. All the way to the belt. Maybe a rematch with ‘Izzy,’ who knows? That’s the goal, why not? People want to see that fight,. I want to be champion. I’m not just saying that just to say it. I mean that. So, that’s where I’m working towards. I’m talking to my manager about what the next steps are,” Gastelum said.

He also addressed the factor of ring rust ahead of his UFC 287 return on the same video.

“I was nervous about feeling that ring rust, but to be honest, I felt like I belonged. I felt like I had just fought the other day and everything was so natural, everything was so smooth. I impressed myself a little bit. I gotta pat myself a little bit on the back,” he added.
