Kaushik Saikumar of India wins Bronze at 2022 IBJJF No-Gi World Championship

India’s Kaushik Saikumar has secured a bronze medal at the 2022 IBJJF No-Gi World Championship which was held in Anaheim in the United States.

Kaushik, who already has an impressive amateur MMA resume to showcase, secured the medal in the Blue Belt Featherweight Category at the World Championship.

In the 5/8 Bracket of the competition, Kaushik got a bye in the first round and was pitted against Sazan Zaimi of BJJ Lab Naperville in the second round. Zaimi was disqualified due to being overweight and this opened up passage for Kaushik.

In the last fight in the 5/8 bracket, Kaushik went up against Nicholas Daniel Kott of Detroit Jiu-Jitsu Syndicate and secured a win to progress into the finals.

In the finals, he secured another win against Ramiro Eugenio L Flores of Lead BJJ and confirmed a bronze medal for his team and nation. Kaushik’s run in the championship eventually came to an end when he was defeated by the gold medallist Ian Thorsten Morken of Checkmat USA.

Kaushik represented Fifty/50 Jiu-Jitsu team at the event and the bronze medal of Kaushik is bound to be a huge boost for the grappling scene in India.

The 24-year-old started off his combat sports career with Karate and Taekwondo at a young age itself and started training in MMA at Combat Kinetics in Chennai. Kaushik went on to secure a long list of wins during this phase and had also secured a Bronze Medal for India at the WAMMA MMA World Championship which happened in 2018.
