India’s Anshul Jubli and Indonesia’s Jeka Saragih are set to lock horns in the Lightweight bracket finals of Road to UFC. The showdown, which promises to be a cracker, will decide the UFC contract winner in the weight category.
Anshul Jubli impresses in the Semi-finals
Hailing from India, Anshul impressed everyone with his performance in the semi-finals. The King of Lions went up against Kyung Pyo Kim in the semi-finals and took home a split-decision win in the fight. Kyung Pyo Kim was one of the favourites heading into the tournament and the Korean veteran was also a betting favourite heading into the fight.
Anshul, however, took home the win and booked a place in the finals. In his post-fight interview, he also announced that Indian fighters will soon take over the world of MMA.
Prior to his semi-final outing, Anshul had received a walkover in the quarter-finals as his opponent Sho Patrick Usami had weight management issues.
Anshul is currently undefeated in his professional MMA career and had an unbeaten run in the amateur MMA circuit as well. He has already made history by becoming the first Indian citizen to win inside the UFC octagon and will be looking to improve his resume in the finals.
The dangerous Jeka Saragih
Indonesian MMA star Jeka Saragih had secured stoppages in both of his fights at Road to UFC. In his quarter-final match, Jeka went up against Indian MMA fighter Pawan Maan Singh.
Pawan, who is a former two-division champion in Super Fight League, was finished by Jeka towards the closing stages of the fight as the Indonesian delivered a spinning back fist to stop the fight.
In the semi-final clash against Ki Wonbin, Jeka produced another finish as he knocked out his South Korean counterpart in the first round itself. This win booked a place in the finals for Jeka and pitted him up against Anshul Jubli.
Jeka, who came in as a late replacement in the tournament, is now 13-2 in his professional MMA career. He is now on a five-fight winning streak at the moment and fought in ONE Pride MMA before his run in the tournament.
The 27-year-old will be looking to bring the Indonesian flag into the UFC Octagon with a win over Anshul in the finals of Road to UFC.
