Jaismine Lamboria made history on Saturday, Sept. 13, by becoming India’s first gold medalist at the 2025 World Boxing Championships, defeating Julia Szeremeta in the 57kg final with a 4-1 split decision victory.
The win in Liverpool marks a career-defining moment for the 24-year-old from Bhiwani, Haryana, who rebounded after an early exit at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where Szeremeta had claimed the silver medal.
“This feeling can’t be expressed, I’m so happy to be a world champion,” Lamboria told Olympics.com after her win. “After my early exit at Paris 2024, I went away and improved my technique physically and mentally. This is the result of consistent work for a year.”
Who Is Jaismine Lamboria?
Lamboria was born on Aug. 30, 2001, in Bhiwani, a region often referred to as the boxing capital of India. She comes from a decorated sporting lineage. Her great-grandfather, Hawa Singh, was a two-time Asian Games gold medalist in heavyweight boxing, while her grandfather, Hon. Captain Chander Bhan Lamboria, was a wrestler. Her uncles, Sandeep Singh and Parvinder Singh, were national boxing champions and also helped train her.
She lives with her father, Jaivir Lamboria, a contractual home guard, her mother, Joginder Kaur, a homemaker, and two sisters—one of whom is a physiotherapist.
Jaismine Lamboria’s Boxing Journey
Lamboria’s boxing journey began in the 10th grade when she expressed interest in the sport to her mother. Her uncles then persuaded her grandfather to allow her to pursue boxing, after which she enrolled in a local academy.
She won a bronze medal in the lightweight category at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and became the sixth Indian boxer to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympics by defeating Marine Camara of Mali in the quarterfinals of the World Olympic Boxing Qualifier in Bangkok.
Originally competing in the 60kg category, Lamboria was later allowed to participate as a reserve in the 57kg event, where she secured Olympic qualification. Despite her early Olympic exit, she returned stronger to claim India’s first-ever gold medal at the World Boxing Championships.
