I beat the best striker in the UFC in his game, says Islam Makhachev

Islam Makhachev outclassed Alexander Volkanovski in his last outing and proved a lot of people wrong.

At UFC 284, Makhachev defeated featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski by unanimous decision to complete his maiden title defence. Makhachev demonstrated his ability to trade and stand up to Volkanovski, and he is prepared to continue showcasing his broad range of abilities in opposition to anyone.

Speaking to BT Sports recently, Islam Makhachev recalled the victory and said that Volkanovski was the best striking in the UFC and that he beat him in his game.

“I could have been UFC champion a couple of years ago. All fighters from the top 10, they avoid me for many years, but I have all the skills. I told everybody I can strike with anyone. Many people say Volkanovski is the best striker in the UFC, but I beat him in his game. I have all skills, but I always choose easy way. Take them down and finish them there,” Makhachev said (h/t MMA Junkie)

Adding to the quote, Makhachev noted that he likes to finish his opponents. He also added that he is planning to strike more with his opponents in future.

“I always like to finish my opponents, but I’m going to strike more for sure, because I can strike with anyone and fans love this,” the Russian MMA star added.

No new fights have been booked for Makhachev as of now. He will be keeping a close eye on the showdown between Beneil Dariush and Charles Oliveira as it could work as a title eliminator. The fight will happen at UFC 288 and Islam has already given his prediction saying that he hopes Dariush wins the fight so that he can have some new challenge.
