Islam Makhachev would like to see Beniel Dariush beat Charles Oliveira at UFC 288.
On May 6 at UFC 288 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, Dariush and Oliveira will square off.
If Dariush defeats Oliveira, his winning streak will increase to nine fights, placing him unquestionably in line to face Makhachev and those are the kinds of challenges the champion seeks.
“I hope Beneil wins, because I already beat Oliveira, and I need some new challenge,” Makhachev told in a recent interview with BT Sport (h/t MMA Junkie)
He added that Dariush has a good set of skills and hopes to see a good fight. He is also open to the possibility of fighting Charles Oliveira next provided that Oliveira puts up a good performance.
“Dariush is going to be a good fight, because this guy has good skills – striking skills, wrestling skills, and grappling skills. That’s why it’s gonna be a good fight. Oliveira, if he wants a rematch, if he shows a good performance, maybe he’s going to be next. I don’t know,” Makhachev said.
Makhachev is currently 24-1 in his professional MMA Career. He is riding high on an impressive winning streak and has not lost since suffering a KO loss to Adriano Moraes back in 2015 at UFC 192.
The most recent win for the Russian came against UFC Featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 284 as Islam outclassed the Volkanovski via a decision victory.
As for Oliveira, he will be looking to rebuild his winning streak when he goes up against Darish. Oliveira was riding high on an impressive streak which saw wins over names like Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier, Michael Chandler, Tony Ferguson and Kevin Lee. However, the streak came crashing down when Oliveira suffered the loss to Makhachev.
