Helena Crevar is back, and she is hungry for another finish.
The 19-year-old submission grappling superstar returns to ONE Championship’s global stage at The Inner Circle 22 on July 17, facing America’s Paige Ivette Clymer in a 10-minute openweight submission grappling contest live on live.onefc.com, with her status as the world's top pound-for-pound women's grappler firmly on the line.
Six months have passed since Crevar announced herself to the ONE audience in breathtaking fashion, submitting Teshya Noelani Alo with an Estima Lock in just 100 seconds on her promotional debut in January.
The performance was a statement from a teenager who had already accumulated 355 career wins and earned the distinction of becoming the first woman awarded a black belt by the legendary John Danaher, as well as one of the youngest IBJJF Black Belt World Champions ever.
For Crevar, the approach remains the same regardless of who stands across from her.
"It's always a submission from me. In any position we end up in, I'll try to get the submission and win that way. I'm going to keep looking to get my second submission at ONE," she said.
Clymer is no ordinary test. The fellow American black belt and ADCC West Coast Trials winner brings size, strength, and serious credentials into the openweight contest, viewing this as the defining breakout moment of her grappling career.
The weight of her ranking is not lost on the teenage prodigy, and she is fully aware of what it means to hold that distinction at such a young age.
"To be the youngest number one pound-for-pound female grappler right now is really big for me," she explained.
Crevar has a clear vision of where she wants her ONE journey to take her. A second submission victory on July 17 would keep her firmly on the path toward the ultimate prize in submission grappling.
"I still definitely want that opportunity for a title. We'll see after this match and talk about whether I'll have an opportunity to go for the ONE [World] Title. But that is definitely the goal: to get the title at ONE," she added.
