British striker George Jarvis believes he has identified the perfect strategy to dethrone ONE Lightweight Muay Thai World Champion Regian Eersel when they headline ONE Fight Night 34 on 2 August at Bangkok's Lumpinee Stadium.
The 25-year-old WBC Muay Thai World Champion with a 4-1 ONE Championship record faces the ultimate test against the 32-year-old Dutch-Surinamese fighter.
Jarvis has done extensive homework on Eersel's fighting style and believes the defending king’s kickboxing background creates exploitable weaknesses in a traditional Muay Thai environment.
"Everyone forgets as well. He's not a Muay Thai fighter. He's obviously fought Muay Thai for a long time, but you only got to look at his style. He's a kickboxer," Jarvis observed.
The challenger has studied Eersel's approach extensively, recognizing the patterns that have made "The Immortal" a former six-time ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Champion but could prove problematic in pure Muay Thai competition.
"He likes coming forward. He likes putting his hands on his head and his elbows in tight. He likes putting some good punch combos with the inside low kicks, and that's typical Dutch kickboxing, which is very good, and it's very hard to beat," Jarvis said.
However, he believes the rule set will favour his traditional Muay Thai approach over Eersel's Dutch kickboxing foundation.
"But when you're fighting Muay Thai, it's a different ball game, especially in small gloves, when I can grab him and elbow him and clinch him up," he said.
Jarvis enters the championship bout with a finish on his mind rather than seeking a tactical decision victory against the experienced Eersel.
"I'm not going in there to beat him on points and take a split decision. I want to go in there and take him out within a few rounds and really make a statement at this," Jarvis said.
