Jon Jones has killed the Drake Curse. Drake had bet a whopping $250,000 on Jon Jones winning the UFC 285 main event via a submission and Jones did just that when he submitted Ciryl Gane in the first-round of their fight.

It seemed as if Jon Jones, one of the most gifted and divisive competitors in UFC history, had never left when he made his three-year comeback at UFC 285 on Saturday.

In the main event of a packed pay-per-view bill that also included a surprising upset of Valentina Shevchenko by Alexa Grasso for the flyweight belt she has held since December 2018, the former light heavyweight champion swiftly submitted Ciryl Gane. Shevchenko's nine-fight winning run and her eight-fight title-winning streak were both broken by Grasso's victory.

Francis Ngannou's heavyweight championship was taken away from him when he was unable to reach an agreement with the UFC over a new contract, and it is now held by Jones. Gane, a former interim champion, was the biggest and most athletic opponent Jones had ever faced. He nonetheless finished the battle in under three minutes and brought home the second-weight division title.

Jones had not competed since defeating Dominick Reyes on February 8, 2020, in Houston at UFC 247. One of the best all-around athletes in the UFC is Gane. He poses several challenges for his opponents because he is explosive, quick, and physically fit. That is, until he met Jones. After that, he hardly had anything to say about the man who is widely regarded as the greatest.

Prior to the fight, Drake had posted a photo on Instagram in which he revealed that he has placed a bet of $250,000 on Jones winning via submission with the payout being $ 1.7 Million.

As Jones has now won the fight via submission, Drake is likely to get the payout.

This comes after Drake made some huge losses in the Jake Paul vs. Tommy Fury fight where he had bet $400,000.
