In their high-stakes flyweight MMA match, Filipino superstar Danny Kingad and rising Indonesian sensation Eko Roni Saputra put on a display.
After a frantic first round, flyweight challenger Kingad, ranked #3, established his rhythm and pummelling the Indonesian repeatedly in the second round, appearing to be on his last legs.
Both competitors tested each other's wrestling prowess early in the opening round. But in the second round, Kingad stepped it up and displayed the excellent striking style that Team Lakay fighters from the Philippines are known for.

Early in the bout, Kingad quickly took Saputra to the ground and planted him, but he soon turned to inventive striking to stop the advancing Indonesian.
The King began attacking Saputra's belly with a series of blows before rocking Saputra with a quick spinning back fist. Seeing that he was losing the battle, Saputra tried twice to jump on Kingad using every technique in his arsenal. On both instances, Kingad prevailed, and the third-ranked flyweight contender even managed to submit Saputra using a rear-naked choke.
Danny Kingad's dominant victory, his 11th in ONE Championship, gave him a good chance to compete for the flyweight world title again in the future. Meanwhile, Saputra's seven-fight winning streak was snapped.
“[I worked hard] on my ground game, my takedown defense, and my takedowns. I prepared it since I got defeated by Kairat, I was motivated by it. [That’s why] I always prepare my ground game and takedowns,” Kingad said after the win.
He also thanked fellow Filipinos in the post-fight speech.
“Thank God I made it, thank you ONE Championship. The Philippines, my fellow Filipinos, thank you so much for the support!"
