At the legendary Lumpinee Boxing Stadium, ONE Championship (ONE) extended its illustrious history with ONE Fight Night 7: Lineker vs. Andrade II. The event featured two enormous World Championship fights in addition to displays of MMA, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and submission grappling.
The World Champions received the renowned ONE World Title belt from ONE Championship, which presented it in collaboration with the top premium lifestyle and luxury performance brand TUMI.
Andrade takes home the main event
The #1 ranked bantamweight contender Fabricio Andrade defeated #2 ranked John Lineker in the main event, winning by technical knockout to win the vacant ONE Bantamweight World Championship. Andrade is a native of Brazil.
In the much awaited rematch, both fighters pushed each other to the limit for four complete rounds, exchanging their best offence. Lineker consistently beat up the taller Andrade by relying on his powerful hands to land punishing body blows and chin hooks from the opening bell. The former World Champion used his wrestling skills to score impressive takedowns.
But, "Wonder Boy" soon found his rhythm as he repeatedly jabbed Lineker and delivered his trademark knees to the belly. As the fight went on, Andrade continued to inflict painful punches on Lineker's face, causing injury. Lineker eventually felt the effects of the punishment, which prompted his corner to declare victory before to the start of the fifth round.
Andrade, who was visibly overcome with emotion, celebrated his victory and became the fifth person to hold the coveted ONE Bantamweight World Title.
Tawanchai wins co-main event
Tawanchai PK Saenchai, the ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion, defeated #2-ranked Jamal Yusupov to successfully retain his title in the co-main event. The Thai megastar completed the task in just 49 seconds. The competitor was evidently in pain after taking a devastating kick to the leg. Yusupov was ruled unfit to continue by referee Olivier Coste, giving Tawanchai the TKO victory.
Martin Nguyen, a former two-division ONE World Champion, displayed signs of his earlier prowess by dominating Leonardo Casotti from bell to bell with his heavy-handed technique. From away, the #4-ranked featherweight provided a diversity of offence, landing powerful punch combinations and catching Casotti with a jumping knee.
Although Casotti having his moments in the second round, Nguyen ultimately prevailed thanks to crisp counterpunching and a decisive takedown in the third. In the end, Nguyen won the fight by unanimous decision after receiving scores from all three judges.
Saemapetch Fairtex, a former ONE World Championship contender, arrived to a thunderous welcome and gave his first-ever kickboxing demonstration in front of adoring Bangkok residents. Zhang Chenglong of China put in a valiant fight, but Saemapetch prevailed thanks to his precision offensive and impeccable timing. Saemapetch was declared the victor in front of the boisterous Thai fans inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium after three rounds of back-and-forth combat.
Eko Roni Saputra, a rising Indonesian star, was utterly destroyed over the course of three rounds by former ONE World Championship contender and current #3-ranked flyweight Danny Kingad, who won by unanimous decision. The star athlete from Team Lakay displayed his strength throughout the competition, keeping the action under control during both the stand-up and grappling exchanges. The Filipino stalwart won because to Kingad's flawless takedowns, smooth submission attempts, and ferocious punching combos.
Danielle Kelly, an American BJJ prodigy, faced Ayaka Miura, a former challenger for the ONE Women's Strawweight World Title, in what would be her biggest test to date. Miura applied early pressure to Kelly, disrupting his flow in the first few seconds. The Japanese MMA competitor got into the "Ayaka Lock," but Kelly fought her way out of it. Later on in the fight, the Philadelphia native fought her way back, taking Miura's back and coming close to finishing a rear-naked choke. After the clock ran out, Kelly was declared the winner by a unanimous vote.
In the ONE Championship matchup against previous ONE Women's Strawweight World Title contender Ayaka Miura, American BJJ sensation Danielle Kelly faced her hardest test to yet. As soon as the game began, Miura applied pressure to Kelly, disrupting his rhythm. Ayaka Lock was applied by the Japanese MMA fighter, but Kelly managed to free herself. In the latter stages of the fight, the Philadelphia native fought her way back, gaining Miura's back and almost submitting her with a rear-naked choke. Kelly won the decision by a unanimous vote as the time ran out.
Getting things started for an exciting ONE Francesko Xhaja and Andrei Stoica engaged in a thrilling light heavyweight kickboxing match during Fight Night 7. The two extremely skilled attackers squared off, trading powerful strikes and blazing combinations. Two of the three judges awarded Xhaja a split decision victory after three competitive rounds.
