ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong is teasing a potential rematch between Aung La N Sang and Brandon Vera.
Brandon Vera, the ONE heavyweight world champion at the time, dropped down a weight class at ONE: Century Part II in 2019 to take on Aung La N Sang in his one and only attempt to win the title of two-division world champion.
Both Vera and Aung La produced a memorable performances in the fight. While each had their chances, Aung La finally prevailed by brutally TKOing his opponent in the second round to retain the ONE light heavyweight world championship.
Chatri Sityodtong recalled the historic encounter between the two renowned fighters in an interview with CNN Philippines and expressed his desire for Brandon Vera to face Aung La again soon.
“Yes, of course, you know, Aung La N Sang and Brandon Vera was a barnburner of a fight. I don't know what happened. But that night it was clear that something was off in Brandon's cardio, so I think Brandon would like another shot. It's not every night you come out and you're on your A-game. That's not to take anything away from Aung La. It was an absolute war. And I think the fans want to see it again. And I think they want to fight again,” he noted.
Brandon Vera set to fight Amir Aliakbari
In Vera's native Manila, the Philippines, a stacked fight bill will see him taking on rising heavyweight talent Amir Aliakbari. It appears that the rivalry between the two parties dates back to Alikabari's initial signing under the promotion two years ago.
Now, the two titans will square off in a spectacular three-round heavyweight match as Vera looks to right the ship after two straight defeats.
