ONE Championship returns with ONE Fight Night 2 this Saturday, 1 October, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. On that morning, Angela Lee and Xiong Jing Nan will complete their trilogy, this time to decide the fate of Xiong’s ONE Strawweight World Title.

Lee last defeated Xiong in October 2019, where she defended her ONE Atomweight World Title against Xiong with a fifth-round submission. Months earlier, however, Xiong protected her strawweight throne against Lee after scoring a fifth-round knockout.

With their series at 1-1, Lee knew it was inevitable that they'd face off for a third time.

“I knew there was unfinished business there," Lee said. "When I wanted to move up to strawweight [last time], I might have been rushing it because I didn't have everything lined up at the time. I was dealing with back injuries and not being able to train at 100 percent, so I was going into the fight less than that, and obviously it showed.

“I mean, I was lacking in certain areas. I feel like I did really well, but at the same time I know how much better I could have been if I had the right preparations. Now, I truly feel that this is my time. And, you know, the preparation, the training has been great. And I'm confident because she didn't experience my full game yet, but I think I've experienced hers. So I think that's going to be to my advantage.”

It could be a poetic event this Saturday in Singapore. After all, the Singapore Indoor Stadium is where Lee won the atomweight belt for the first time in 2016, the year in which she became the youngest-ever female MMA World Champion at only 18 years old.

On 1 October, Lee could potentially make history once again if she captures the strawweight crown. She would, in fact, become the first-ever female to hold belts in two different weight divisions in ONE.

“It definitely stirs up a lot of different emotions,” Angela said. “I am so familiar with the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Walking through those halls and being in that environment, it’s very, very familiar. It feels right at home, and I know that I’ve gotten through this so many times. It’s going to be an iconic moment.”
