Amarjeet Singh Lohan Awarded Black Belt in Jiu-Jitsu, Eyes 2026 Asian Games Gold

Amarjeet Singh Lohan, one of India’s most accomplished Ju-Jitsu athletes, reached a major milestone in his martial arts journey on Saturday, earning the prestigious black belt in Ju-Jitsu. The honor was awarded by Professor Olavo Abreu, recognizing years of relentless dedication and perseverance.

Singh’s path to the black belt has been marked by grit and resilience. Inspired by his father, Ramniwas Lohan, a wrestler, kabaddi player, and a lifelong blood donor with over 135 donations, Singh was introduced to combat sports at an early age. He began training in judo in third grade, winning multiple medals through high school before transitioning to wrestling, where he also earned state and national podium finishes.

A serious back injury in 2014 threatened to end his athletic career. Doctors advised him to quit sports, but Singh defied the odds, returning to competition in 2015 and finding his calling in Ju-Jitsu and grappling.

His breakthrough came in 2016 with a silver medal at the National Grappling Championship and a fifth-place finish at the World Championship in Belarus. The following year, Singh earned double gold at the National Championship, a gold medal at the South Asian Championship, and another at the International Open. He also secured a bronze at the Thailand World Ranking Championship.

Singh continued to rack up accolades, winning silver at the Asian Championship in Mongolia and multiple medals at the Abu Dhabi Asian Championship between 2019 and 2021. Despite re-injuring his back in 2022, he pushed forward to represent India at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou and claimed bronze at the Asian Championship in Thailand.

In 2025, Singh competed in the 9th Asian Championship in Jordan, serving as both athlete and coach. Now a black belt, he remains focused on elevating Ju-Jitsu in India and has set his sights on winning gold at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
