UFC 254 Results: Khabib Nurmagomedov submits Justin Gaethje in the second round

The much-awaited UFC Lightweight title fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Justin Gaethje headlined UFC 254 today at the UFC Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.

The fight opened with an intense first round which saw Khabib pressuring Gaethje throughout before landing a takedown in the last minute. Khabib landed another takedown in the opening minutes of the second round which led to the triangle submission. With the win, Khabib improved his record to 29-0. In the post-fight statement, Khabib announced his retirement and noted that this was his last fight. 

In the co-main event, Robert Whittaker delivered a solid performance to take home a decision victory against Jared Cannonier. The former Middleweight champion almost got a finish in the last round but Cannonier, to his credit, managed to go the distance despite being hurt badly.

The Heavyweight clash between Alexander Volkov and Walt Harris ended in the second round after Volkov landed a beautiful body kick that resulted in the stoppage.

Phil Hawes only needed 18 seconds to finish his fight against Jacob Malkoun and made sure that he had an impactful debut. Elsewhere, Lauren Murphy had a dominant performance against Liliya Shakirov and went home with a second-round submission win.

In the opening fight of the main card, Magomed Ankalaev made quick work of Ion Cutelaba and left no doubts this time around. Ankalaev dropped his counterpart in the first-round itself and continued his impressive run in the UFC. Below are the complete results from UFC 254.
