For the first time in his budding professional career, Tae Kyun “Ares” Kim will get to see his name on the marquee of a live mixed martial arts event promoted by a major international organization.
The unbeaten South Korean will take on hometown favorite Nurzhan “Bizon” Akishev in the main event of BRAVE CF 53, which is set to emanate from the picturesque city of Almaty in Kazakhstan this Saturday, August 21st.
Kim soaks in the privilege and attention that he’s getting for being the headliner of the promotion’s return trip to the country, but he is also aware with what’s expected of him come fight night.
"I was happy to hear that I was the main event, but at the same time, I am a bit worried,” he said. “It’s a burden [being in the main event], but I'll work harder to showcase a good performance. I do not want to show Korean fans a disappointing match.
“Ares” feels that his upcoming match against Akishev will help him raise his stock as a competitor in the sport.
"I never think about who I want to fight next because I don't care who I face inside the cage. I'm here to fight the best and be the strongest,” Kim stressed.
Kim is currently riding high on a three-bout winning streak in BRAVE CF, and one more win could land him a shot at the company’s vacant Featherweight World Championship.
But it seems capturing the top prize in the 145-pound weight class doesn’t end there for Kim as the undefeated stalwart bares that he eyes to make history by becoming the first BRAVE CF athlete to hold two World Titles simultaneously.
"My long-term goal is to become both the Featherweight World Champion and the Lightweight World Champion of BRAVE CF, and stay as a dual champion for a long time,” he stated.
