Mizoram Sports Minister Robert Romawia Royte met boxing coach and promoter Mujtaba Kamal last day in Mizoram to discuss the development of professional boxing in Mizoram.
The minister also announced that an International Professional Boxing event is being planned to be held in Aizawl in March 2021.
“Had a fruitful meeting today with Team #CultFitIndia, headed by Mujtaba Kamal on professional boxing vis-à-vis promotion of professional boxers from Mizoram. Appreciated his zeal for promoting Mizo boxers in professional boxing. We agreed to work together to organize International Professional Boxing Bout in Aizawl sometime in March 2021,” the minister noted through his social media pages.
Back in January 2020, the Central Government had allocated funds for setting up a Center of Excellence for Boxing in Mizoram and the latest meeting with Mujtaba Kamal is expected to further boost the development of boxing in the state.
In an exclusive statement, Mujtaba Kamal noted that Mizoram has a long list of talented boxers and added that the three-year plan hopes to provide a platform for them.
“Mizoram has a lot of talent when it comes to boxing. We are going to develop professional boxing in Mizoram and the Sports Minister has extended his complete support for the same and organizing events” he said.
It was also noted by Mujtaba Kamal that Mizoram boxer Lalrinsanga Tlau will be fighting for the WBC World Youth Title in March 2021 which is expected to be a huge boost for the Mizoram Boxing circuit.
Coach R.Lalchhuanawma who has been crucial for the development of boxers in the state of Mizoram will also be part of the project along with the team of Mujtaba Kamal and the sports ministry.
