Ritu Phogat looking to get back into the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix

Ritu Phogat has her eyes set on reentering the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix. Ritu, who was one of the original fighters in the Grand Prix, had lost her place in the tournament after suffering a close split decision loss against Bi Nguyen at ONE: Dangal.

In her recent interview with ONE Championship, Ritu made it clear that she is looking to get back into the Grand Prix.

“Right now, I am focusing and preparing for my next match. I want to win my next match and book a place in Atomweight Grand Prix. If I get my next match as soon as possible and perform well or finish my opponent, I will let [ONE Championship] know that I deserve to be a part of the Grand Prix. If I can be a part of the Grand Prix after defeating [my next opponent], I will do that,” Ritu said.

She also recalled her last fight with Nguyen and shared her thoughts on the decision.

“I already knew that the match was going to be amazing and a treat for the fans. I gave my 110 percent in that match. The decision was quite shocking to me because I had dominated the match for two rounds. I was surprised about what had just happened. I had dominated my opponent for two rounds. I completely respect the [judges’] decision, but I do believe that I had won that match. One thing that I know is whoever dominates the fight wins the fight. For two rounds, I did that and didn’t give her any chances to get up. I feel that I should have won that fight,” she noted.

The Indian MMA star further went on to add that although she is good friends with Bi Nguyen, she is interested in having a rematch to settle the scores.

“We are good friends outside the ring. Whenever we meet, we always have a good, friendly conversation, and the friendship will always be there. Friendship and fighting are completely different things. If anyone has any doubt, I would want a rematch against her and show the world who’s the best,” she concluded.
