Ritu Phogat ONE Championship Record and Next Fight: What you need to know

Ritu Phogat has managed to build a strong MMA record in ONE Championship and is all set to have her next fight in the promotion.

The transition from wrestling to MMA

The Indian Tigress made her transition from wrestling to MMA back in 2019. Ritu, the third daughter of former wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, began training at the age of eight under her father. She dropped out of school after tenth grade to pursue her wrestling career full-time.

Her sisters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari, as well as her cousin Vinesh Phogat, have all won gold medals in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games. Priyanka Phogat, another of her cousins, is also an international wrestler.

Prior to her switch to MMA, Ritu had won multiple medals in wrestling. She won the 2016 Commonwealth Wrestling Gold Medal in Singapore and followed this up with a bronze medal at the 2017 Asian Championships. Ritu had also won a Silver in the World U23 Championships.

The MMA Fights of Ritu Phogat So far

In November 2019, Phogat made her mixed martial arts and ONE Championship debut against Nam Hee Kim at ONE Championship: Age of Dragons. The Indian then secured a win against Chiao Chen Wu in her second fight.

On October 30, 2020, Phogat fought Nou Srey Pov at ONE Championship: Inside the Matrix. The fight ended in a TKO victory for her.

Phogat faced Jomary Torres at ONE Championship: Big Bang on December 4, 2020 next, just over a month after her last fight and she won the bout via TKO. The first loss of her MMA career came against Bi Nguyen at ONE: Dangal. Ritu, however, made a strong comeback against Lin Heqin and ended a long winning streak of Heqin.

With the win over Heqin, Ritu also booked her place in the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix. The biggest win of Ritu’s career at that point came against Meng Bo in the Quarter-Finals of the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix.

Ritu went into the fight with Meng as an underdog and came out with a dominant win which moved her to the semi-finals of the Grand Prix. Ritu was initially scheduled to fight Itsuki Hirata in the semi-finals but Hirata pulled out of the fight due to injury. Ritu eventually faced Jenelyn Olsim and won to advance into the finals of the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix.

Ritu Phogat next fight

Ritu Phogat will be fighting Stamp Fairtex next at ONE: Winter Warriors on December 3, 2021. The fight will be the final of the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix final. The winner of the fight will be getting a title shot against reigning ONE Atomweight Champion Angela Lee.
