Ritu Phogat moves into ONE Atomweight Grand Prix Final, defeats Jenelyn Olsim

Indian MMA star Ritu Phogat has progressed into the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix Finals. Ritu, went up against Jenelyn Olsim at ONE: NEXT GEN in Singapore today and managed to secure a decision win which booked her place in the Final.

Ritu managed to land a takedown early in the first round and had the upper hand over Jenelyn on the ground as expected. Though Jenelyn tried to work from the bottom, the wrestling skills of Ritu proved to be too much for Jenelyn. The Team Lakay athlete got a warning for kicking the grounded opponent which also wrapped up the first round. 

The Indian Tigress started the second round with a huge slam which once again landed her on the top position. Jenelyn was trying to work on submissions from the bottom but just like the first round, the efforts were fended off successfully by Ritu Phogat. Ritu continued her dominance in the third round and took home a comfortable decision victory and secured her place in the finals. 

Ritu was initially scheduled to fight Itsuki Hirata in the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix Semi-Final clash but the fight was called off after Hirata had to withdraw due to high fever. Jenelyn Olsim, meanwhile, was originally scheduled to face Jihin Radzuan in a World Grand Prix alternate bout at ONE: NEXTGEN II but stepped into face Ritu Phogat on short notice.

Olsim came into the fight with a record of 5-2 to her name and won her last fight against Bi Nguyen. Prior to this, she had also secured a win over Maira Mazar in ONE Championship.

In the second semi-final of the tournament, Stamp Fairtex will be fighting Julie Mezabarba. Stamp was initially scheduled to fight veteran Seo Hee Ham but the fight was canceled after Seo Hee Ham suffered an injury.

Ritu Phogat came into the fight on the back of a victory against Meng Bo. Ritu staged a huge comeback against the experienced Bo in the Quarter-Final showdown of the ONE Atomweight Grand Prix and in turn, booked her place in the semi-finals.

Prior to that, she had defeated Lin Heqin and was riding high on momentum. She was 5-1 heading into that fight with her only defeat coming against Bi Nguyen in a close decision. The Indian had made her professional MMA debut back in November 2019 against Nam Hee Kim and had been on an impressive run since.

She then improved on this win and extended her winning streak to four with wins over Chiao Chen Wu, Nou Srey Pov, and Jomary Torres before her fight with Nguyen.
