Reinier De Ridder wants to choke out Andre Galvao at ONE X

Reinier De Ridder is set to have a grappling showdown with Andre Galvao at ONE X. The ONE Middleweight and Light Heavyweight champion will have a quick turnaround following his win over Kiamrian Abbasov at ONE: Full Circle and will be looking to cement his place on top of the ONE Championship win with a win over Galvao.

Considered to be one of the best grapplers in the world, Galvao is a name that has evoked a lot of interest in De Ridder. Speaking to SCMP MMA, De Ridder revealed that he got the hint of the matchup before his showdown with Abbasov.

“I got the word a week before the [Abbvasov] fight. They called me and they said that ‘we have something nice for you.’ I was thrilled, man. I’m very happy with this one,” he said.

The Dutchman further went on to add that he has what it takes to choke out the grappling phenom when they meet at ONE X in March.

“Yeah, man, who would have thought when I started this jiu-jitsu stuff that I could be grappling with one of the best in the world, one of the best to ever do it. Man, it’s a huge honor. And to even consider that, I think I have a shot to choke this guy out. So that’s cool, man. That’s so cool. I’ve tested my skills against the elite, and I’ve come on top every time. So why not against this guy? It’s a big jump. It’s a huge competition. But I think I’m up for it,” he said.

De Ridder currently holds an undefeated professional MMA record of 15-0 to his name and had secured two back-to-back wins over Aung La N Sang before he submitted Abbasov.

As for ONE X, the event will be headlined by the showdown between Stamp Fairtex and Angela Lee for the ONE Atomweight title and the event will also have four more world titles on the line.
