A rematch between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling is apparently bound to happen in 2022. Yan and Sterling first fought back in March 2021 and Sterling won that fight after a DQ due to an illegal knee from the Russian.

Sterling has not stepped into the Octagon after this title win due to injury and this made UFC set up an interim title fight between Cory Sandhagen and Yan which Yan won via a unanimous decision.

The stakes are high for the rematch between Sterling and Yan now considering that it will act as a unification bout. Sterling recently gave an update on when he will be ready to make the return through his Instagram.

“There’s a Christmas ass-whooping waiting for Yan, early 2022! See you soon, my Russian nemesis” Sterling wrote along with a picture of him posing after a workout.

Yan, meanwhile, has put out a response through Twitter and vowed to destroy the champion when they step into the cage again.

“Friendly reminder that Alga is my b**ch. This time I will destroy this little whiner even more impressive,” Yan wrote on Twitter.

No official dates have been announced for the potential fight between the two and with Sterling expected to make his return in early 2022, it would be interesting to see how UFC decides to go forward with the Bantamweight division.
