The inaugural MMA Super Cup kickstarted today in Bahrain. The first quarter-final of the grand tournament saw Team Ireland going up against Team Oceania and as expected, it proved to be a nail-biter.
Ireland started off strongly by winning the first bout as Eebha Cruise managed to submit Alisha Burtt. Kerry Ann Vernon got a walk-over in the second bout to make it 2-0 for Ireland.
With the pressure mounting, Coopar Smith got one back for Team Oceania. He submitted Jamie Abbott Bissett in the second round to make it 2-1 on the scorecard.
Ireland, however, immediately struck back through Jordan Bradshaw and made it 3-1 to keep their dominance in place. Kasib Murdoch-McKeich made the score 3-2 with a win over Lewis Byrne only to see Ireland getting another win through Jordan Furey in the next bout to make it 4-2.

With a must-win situation against him, Oceania’s Jonas Grace did the job for his team and kept the match alive by taking the score to 4-3. Auryn Parmley then made the score 4-4 to take matters to the last bout between Larry Adnan and Gustavo Lopez at Heavyweight.
Though Larry had a good start and almost got the finish, Gustavo Lopez pulled off a submission out of nowhere in the closing seconds of the first-round to take home the win for Team Ireland. With the win, Team Ireland progressed into the semi-finals while Oceania was eliminated.
