Indian MMA fighter Kimson Tony made his return to the MMA cage last week when he competed at the Hero Fight Night 3 in Nashik. It was the first fight for Kimson after a long gap which he felt was required for the progression of his career.
“The gap was necessary for me after I lost my previous fight to know myself better and I was looking for a better camp,” he said.
Kimson weighed 107KGs at that particular point where he decided to take a gap from competing. He started shedding pounds and improving his skills when he was faced with the passing away of his mother a few months back.
The loss of his mother was something that put Kimson in a dilemma. He thought of giving up on fighting and going back to his hometown.
“I wasn't sure I would ever fight again after my mom passed away, everything happened so fast I didn't understand what to do I was planning to go back to my hometown of Port Blair already then I was told about the fight so I took it,” he said.
Kimson was pitted up against Mazher Khan at Hero Fight Night and when he stepped into the cage, he was weighing in at 84 KGS which is more than a 20KG drop from his last outing in the Indian MMA circuit.
Backed up the likes of Siddharth Chandanshive and Aditya Katkade, he managed to get a first-round TKO stoppage via ground and pound against Mazher Khan, and in the post-fight interview, he dedicated the win to his mother as well.
“Mom always wanted to see me win fights, she is not here anymore, but I'm happy that I fulfilled her wishes,” Kimson said.
He is hopeful of staying active in the Indian MMA circuit this coming year and aims to get three straight wins as well and fulfill the dreams of his mother
