Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Khamzat Chimaev: Who did better in first 11 fights?

Comparisons between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Khamzat Chimaev have been on the rise since the performance of Khamzat at UFC 273.

While many people noted that Khamzat cannot be compared to Khabib after his outing against Gilbert Burns, another section of the fans are claiming that Khamzat has a better performance when compared to the first 11 fights of Khabib. With that said, here is a look at the first 11 fights of both the fighters and a breakdown of their opponents.

Khabib Nurmagomedov

Khabib Nurmagomedov started off his professional MMA career at CSFU: Champions League and started his career with a second-round submission win in 2008. In his debut, Khabib went up against Vusal Bayramov who had a record of 1-0 at that time. Khabib then fought in Atrium Pankration Cup in 2008 and went to three decisions. Khabib’s opponents were 0-4, 1-0, and 2-0 respectively when they fought Khabib in these fights.

Khabib’s next three wins came via finishes. He fought in the Tsumada FC 3 against Said Akhmed and Eldar Eldarov with TKO finishes in both the fights. Said had a record of 0-0 and Eldard had a record of 1-0 at that time. The Dagestani star then submitted Shakhbulat Shamkhalaev at M1 to secure his seventh win. Khabib had his next four wins across Golden Fist of Russia, M1, and Pro FC 29. Out of these four wins, three came via finishes when one went the distance.

Khamzat Chimaev

Khamzat Chimaev started his professional MMA career in 2018, a decade after Khabib Nurmagomedov started his journey. The first fight of Khamzat came against Gard Olve Sagen at IRFA 14 and Sagen was 1-1 at that time when he fought Khamzat. The Swede secured a second-round TKO win in the fight and went on to get another finish in his second fight over Ole Magnor who was 2-4 at that time.

A turning point in the career of Khamzat Chimaev came when he moved to BRAVE Combat Federation. Khamzat had his third fight in BRAVE CF 18 and secured another stoppage win. This win came against Marko Kisic who was undefeated at that time with a record of 5-0.

Khamzat then headlined BRAVE CF 20 in India against Sidney Wheeler who was also more experienced and held a record of 8-3 to his name. Khamzat secured two more wins in BRAVE Combat Federation before joining the UFC and winning five back-to-back wins in the promotion. So how does his stats match up to Khabib? Here is a look at them.

Comparison between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Khamzat Chimaev

Khabib and Khamzat had the same amount of wins at 11 fights as both fighters were undefeated. When it comes to finishes, Khamzat had more finishes than Khabib as he finished 10 out of his 11 fights while Khabib only finished 8 out of his 11 fights. Khamzat also required less number of rounds in his 11 fights and his opponents had a whopping 129-42 record when compared to the 31-21 record that Khabib’s opponents had.
