Xie Wei gets a win over Kantharaj Agasa at ONE Championship: Full Blast

The much-awaited showdown between Kantharaj Agasa and Xie Wei is in the books. It was Xie Wei that emerged as the winner in the battle after Kantharaj was not able to continue after the second round due to a bad cut.

Agasa was going for takedown attempts from the get-go itself and was pushing through with his strength for the most part of the first round when Xie Wei was putting all his efforts to keep the fight in a standing position. The second round was a similar story but with just seconds to go before the end of the round, Kantharaj suffered a bad cut due to a flying knee from Xie Wei which in turn resulted in the win as Kantharaj was not able to come out of the corner. 

With the win, the Chinese MMA fighter improved his professional record to 8-3. This was also his seventh win in the ONE Championship platform including the ONE Hero Series. Interestingly, he has only lost once in his ONE Championship run with the defeat coming against Danny Kingad back in January 2020. Before joining ONE Championship through ONE Hero Series, Xie Wei had fought in WLF, CWM and Kunlun Fight with a combined record of 1-2.

Kantharaj, on the other hand, has slipped to 11-3 in his professional career. He was making his promotional debut in the fight and would be looking to bounce back strongly when he steps into the circle again.

Prior to the fight, Kantharaj had noted that he had a tough camp due to the COVID-19 pandemic and had also noted that he is not someone that chooses opponents even though his dream fight is with Demetrious Johnson.

Before joining ONE Championship, Kantharaj had fought in promotions like Super Fight League, BRAVE Combat Federation, UAE Warriors, and Kumite 1 League. He also has experience of competing in the IMMAF World Championship and is a Judo Black Belt.
