The main event of ONE: Winter Warriors 2 will see Kairat Akhmetov locking horns with Danny Kingad in an exciting flyweight bout.
Currently ranked fourth in the Flyweight rankings for ONE Championship, Kairat could fast track himself to a title shot with a win over Kingad and he plans on doing just that. Along with finishing his business with Adriano Moraes, Kairat is interested in getting into the cage with Demetrious Johnson as well.
“After winning this bout, I would like to fight for the title, or with Demetrious Johnson in my homeland, Kazakhstan. We have a business to finish with Adriano Moraes. The score is 1-1. I think we ought to make it a trilogy. But I don’t want to make guesses. And all of Kazakhstan is waiting for a ONE Championship event here. This is my dream. But this contender fight is my identification card for my future dream,” he said.
However, getting a win over Kingad will not be an easy task. The Team Lakay star has plenty of firepower in his arsenal and noted that he will be looking for a knockout against Kairat. However, Kairat is not impressed by the comments and wants a finish of his own in the main event.
“Kingad had one knockout at the beginning of his career, but all his last fights have been won by decision, split or unanimous. He has never had knockouts, and he wants to knock me out?” Akhmetov adds. Yes, he has good stand-up, no questions here, but don’t be surprised if it’s me that knocks him out. I’m not afraid of his stand-up. I will do stand-up and grappling. Mixed martial arts is neither kickboxing, wrestling, or any separate sport – it’s mixed martial arts. We’ll show ourselves in all aspects,” Kairat said.
