GAMMA Asian MMA Championships 2021 is in the books and Team India had a great outing at the event having won a string of medals with the total piling up to 22 including four gold medals and finished third in the standings behind Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
The day started off on a strong note for India when Kishor BK (AIMMAF) went on to secure a gold medal with a decision win over Alikhan Tolegenov of Kazakhstan in the 115 LBS Striking MMA category.
Akshata Khadtare (GAMMAI) produced a dominant performance against Tomiris Zhussupova of Kazakhstan in the finals of the 115 LBS Striking MMA but the judges ruled in favor of Tomiris in what proved to be an upset. Akshata had to settle for the Silver Medal as a result. Akshata was fighting a weight class above her actual weight class of 105 LBS as well.
Harpreet Kaur (GAMMAI) secured the second Gold Medal for India on the day when she stopped Rauzan Muratov of Kazakhstan in the 125 LBS Striking MMA finals. Neitso Angami (GAMMAI) was stopped by Nurtaza Jumakhanova of Kazakhstan in the 155 LBS Striking MMA finals which resulted in a Silver Medal for Neitso who had won two fights to reach the finals.
Harpreet delivered a great effort in the 125 LBS MMA Finals as well but fell short against Akbalieva Begaiym of Kyrgyzstan in the finals and settled for Silver which was her second medal of the tournament.
Naorem Dinesh had a strong performance against Yermakhan Oryntayev of Kazakhstan in the 125 LBS Striking category and was dominating the match till the second half of the third round where Oryntayev pulled off a submission to win gold.
Longtsukumba Ao put together an excellent performance against Yazan Jaber of Palestine in a three-round affair but fell short on the judges card as the decision was ruled in favor of Jaber meaning that Longtsukumba had to settle for silver.
Sumit Bhyan and Samata Sonavane had to settle for Silver Medals in their respective final matches when Akshata Khadtare secured the third Gold medal for India at the event with a quick submission finish in the finals of the 105 LBS MMA Category.
The last fight of the day for India came with Dinesh Naorem who took home his second medal and India’s fourth medal at the tournament when he defeated Uson Murzabek of Kyrgyzstan in the finals of the 125 LBS Category with a decision.
With the win, India ended the campaign with 4 Gold Medals, 7 Silver Medals, and 11 Bronze Medals.
