The 2019 GAMMA World Championship campaign of Team India proved to be a memorable one as the team secured seven medals and finished eighth in the Medal Standings.

Sumit Bhyan was the biggest success story from the tournament as he secured three wins. His wins came against Timur Sinen of Russia, Oleh Andrieev of Ukraine and Adilet Nurmatov of Kyrgyzstan. Sumit ended the campaign with a silver medal with the Gold in his weight category going to Russia’s Ilia Freimanov.

India secured two medals in the 115 lbs men’s category thanks to Shivaraj and Mandeep Singh. Shivaraj defeated Lance Siah of Malaysia to get his silver medal while the gold medal went to Roman Syrkin.  Mandeep, meanwhile, secured his Bronze medal by defeating Humberto Correia of France. He then lost to the eventual Gold winner Roman Syrkin in the semi-finals.

Akshata Khadtare, Divya Nagaraj, Priya Saini, and Kiran Naik also secured medals in their respective categories. Akshata had to settle for Bronze after Ukraine’s Semal Valentyna went on to win the Gold Medal after going over the Indian.

Priya Saini and Kiran Naik had similar stories as Iliuk Luidmyla and Sabrina Phillipe stopped them from progressing further. Elsewhere, Sue Roezala played spoilsport to Divya’s Gold medal hopes and took home the Gold from the +160 kg category to New Zealand.

Below are the final Medals list for India
