Top-ranked Indian boxer Faizan Anwar managed to keep his perfect record intact with a unanimous decision win over Ricky Sismundo in Dubai this past weekend.
The fight went the complete distance of eight rounds and both fighters had their moment throughout.
Sismundo even managed to drop Faizan in the third round which proved to be a huge turning point in the match. The Indian however pushed hard against the experienced Filipino, who is also the sparring partner of Manny Pacquiao, throughout the rounds that followed and managed to take home a win which improved his professional record to 8-0.
Four of Faizan’s eight wins came via stoppages as well and this was the Indian’s first bout after his win over Justice Addy back in June 2021. The win is expected to cement the top rank of Faizan in the WBC India Welterweight rankings.
He is currently first in the rankings ahead of names like Neeraj Goyat and Vaibhav Singh Yadav ranked second and third respectively.
In the post-fight speech, Faizan thanked everyone for the support and also gave a shoutout to his uncle Mujtaba Kamal for inspiring him to become a boxer.
Sismundo, meanwhile, came into the fight with a record of 35-15-3 to his name and is now on a five-fight losing streak due to the result. The Filipino started his career back in 2006 and has fought all over the world including countries like the Philippines, Canada, Japan, the United States, Australia among others.
