Top-ranked Indian boxer Faizan Anwar will be making his return to the ring on 20 August 2021 as we reported earlier. The 20-year-old will be going up against Ricky Sismundo of The Philippines at the event hosted by D4G Promotions in Conrad, Dubai. Here is everything you need to know about the bout.

Faizan Anwar looking to remain undefeated

Currently, the top-ranked Welterweight in India as per BoxRec and the WBC India Rankings, Faizan Anwar holds a professional record of 7-0 to his name. He is ranked above names like Neeraj Goyat and Vaibhav Singh Yadav who had earlier secured WBC Asia Council titles.

Four of his seven wins came with knockouts as well. His last fight came back in June 2021 when he went up against Justice Addy in Dubai. Faizan secured a unanimous decision win in the fight to remain unbeaten.

Faizan is also ranked 184 in the World as per BoxRec and had started his professional career back in 2019 only after which has embarked on the unbeaten journey. 

Experienced Sismundo looking for a strong comeback

Sismundo, meanwhile, comes in with a wealth of experience and holds a professional record of 35-15-3 to his name. He is coming into the fight on the back of a four-fight losing streak and will be looking to put an end to the same when he fights the young Indian boxer.

The Filipino started his career back in 2006 and has fought all over the world including countries like the Philippines, Canada, Japan, the United States, Australia among others.

The event had undergone multiple changes over the past week and will now be headlined by the showdown between Hasibullah Ahmadi and Rauf Aghayev when Apichet Petchemanee vs. Phumiritdet Chonlathondamrongku will serve as a second headliner. Ahead of the fight, the Indian boxing star talked to IFL TV where he opened up about his fight.

“I watched my opponent. He is from the Philippines and before I already beat two Filipino guys and this is like the third one.
