Former UFC Champion Cain Velasquez could face 20 years to life in prison if he is convicted for attempted murder.
Cain reportedly shot a man who was charged with molesting a close relative of his recently. The shot from Cain, however, missed the person he targeted and the bullet ended up hitting the person’s stepfather.
ESPN reported that Cain is facing 10 charges being attempted murder; shooting at an occupied motor vehicle or aircraft; three counts of assault with a firearm; willfully discharging a firearm from a vehicle; three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and carrying a loaded firearm with intent to commit a felony.
“The sad tragedy is that Mr. Velasquez chose to take the law into his own hands, endangering the public and everyone in the truck. This act of violence also causes more pain and suffering to his family,” Santa Clara County District Attorney Jeff Rosen said (via BJ Penn.com).

Meanwhile, the MMA community has come out backing the former UFC champion. Ben Askren had a strong view on the situation.
“I don’t want to live in a country where you can’t shoot someone who sexually abused your child. #FreeCain,” he wrote on his Twitter page.
Derek Brunson tweeted out that the police should free Cain Velasquez and added that he needs shooting practice.
“At the same time someone needs to buy Cain some firearm courses for Christmas . That aim could use some work !” Brunson tweeted.
Sean Strickland, Anthony Pettis and a string of UFC stars including Khabib Nurmagomedov also came in support of Cain.
Cain last fought in the UFC back in 2019. He fought Francis Ngannou at UFC on ESPN 1 and suffered a first-round KO loss after which he has not stepped into the Octagon. He had a run-in professional wrestling as well.
