Leandro Ataides is all set to fight Aung La N Sang on July 30, 2021, at ONE: Battleground. The Brazilian comes into the fight on the back of a defeat against champion Reinier De Ridder when Aung La N Sang has a similar story as he suffered two back-to-back defeats to De Ridder recently.

With a possible title shot at Middleweight on the line, the fight between Ataides and Aung La has high stakes. Ataides, who recently sat with ONE Championship for an interview, acknowledged the same.

“Aung La N Sang has already been the champ, so now is my chance. Winning this battle against him means I can be the number one contender. This is more important for me because, for the first time, I can be the ONE Middleweight World Champion,” he noted.

The Brazilian also spoke about his excitement of fighting a legendary name like Aung La.

“For me, this is super exciting. I was supposed to face him three years ago, and now this is the time to fight against him. Even though it is not for the title, I’m excited to fight against him. He’s a great icon of his country and mixed martial arts. I have such respect for him,” he said.

However, when concluding, Ataides made his intentions clear and added that he will be looking to get a second-round knockout when they step into the circle.

“I think I can win in the second round. This is my goal. I want to finish it. I know it’s going to be hard to strike with him — I never saw someone knock him out. Maybe this is my chance to knock him out,” he concluded.
