The much-awaited rematch between Aung La N Sang and Reinier De Ridder went down at ONE on TNT IV today. Just like the first fight between the two, De Ridder managed to put his grappling skills to good use in the fight to get a Unanimous Decision win in the fight and become the ONE Light Heavyweight champion after five rounds.
De Ridder went for the takedown just seconds into the first-round itself and managed to push Aung La N Sang against the cage similar to the first matchup. After a scramble, De Ridder managed to get the top position and put the Light Heavyweight Champion on the backfoot. Aung La was able to escape from the submission attempts of De Ridder and managed to stand up with one minute left on the round.
The second round started off on a similar note as De Ridder was able to use his cage pressure and takedown Aung La N Sang and keep the fight on the ground. The third round was no different as it was all about De Ridder using his grappling skills to dominate Aung La while the champion was doing his best to fend off the submission attempts. The fourth and Fifth round had similar stories as well although the champion had a good spell halfway through the last round.
Aung La N Sang was initially supposed to fight Vitaly Bigdash in a trilogy fight at the event but unfortunately, the fight did not go through as Bigdash had to pull out of the same. De Ridder was offered the fight on short notice and accepted the same which led to the rematch between these two.
The last time Aung La N Sang and Reinier De Ridder fought, De Ridder was able to submit the Burmese Python to win the ONE Championship Middleweight title.
Prior to the fight, Aung La N Sang had said that he had made adjustments after his first fight with De Ridder while De Ridder had noted that he will be looking to submit the Lightheavyweight champion once again.
