Volkanovski will not be easy for Islam like Oliveira, says Arman Tsarukyan

Arman Tsarukyan believes that Alexander Volkanovski will be the toughest opponent to date for Islam Makhachev.

Tsarukyan was recently questioned by The Schmo about his expectations for the eagerly awaited fight between the two champions at UFC 284. He noted that Volkanovski will be tougher than Charles Oliveira. Despite the prediction, Arman feels that Islam has what it takes to get the better of Volkanovski.

"This is a good fight. I think this fight's going to show if Islam's the best or not in his game. Volkanovski is number one pound-for-pound and I think for Islam, he's going to be the toughest opponent, you know? My opinion is still that Islam's going to win, but for sure it's not going to be easy like [Charles] Oliveira,” he said in the interview.

Islam Makhachev defeated Charles Oliveira in the second round of UFC 280 to win the 155-pound title. He immediately demanded a matchup with Alexander Volkanovski, the current featherweight champion.

The audience witnessed what can only be referred to as a super fight as the Australian entered the octagon and shook Makhachev's hand. At UFC 284, Alexander Volkanovski will face Islam Makhachev for the lightweight championship and the No. 1 pound-for-pound ranking.

Another UFC fighter, Belal Muhammad had also given his prediction for the fight and noted that Islam Makhachev will dominate Volkanovski when the two fights.

Interestingly, Volkanovski has the opportunity to become a double champion in the promotion when Islam will be looking to get his first title defence. Volkanovski is currently on a 22-fight winning streak at the moment and has not suffered a loss since 2013. Volkanovski had two successful title defences in 2022 as well.

Islam Makhachev, on the other hand, is on a similar run and is on an 11-fight winning streak. He has not lost since his fight with Adriano Martins back in 2015 October.
