The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has unveiled an exciting matchup for UFC 301, as Alexandre Pantoja is set to defend his flyweight title against the promising contender Steve Erceg in a five-round battle. The announcement was made by the UFC on Friday, stirring anticipation among MMA enthusiasts worldwide.

Although both fighters have agreed to the showdown, official bout agreements are yet to be signed, as disclosed by sources to MMA Fighting.

Pantoja, boasting an impressive record of 27 wins and 5 losses, clinched and successfully defended the 125-pound championship in 2023. Notable victories over Brandon Moreno and Brandon Royval have propelled him to a current winning streak of five consecutive fights, establishing himself as a dominant force in the flyweight division.

His challenger, Erceg, holds a commendable record of 12 wins and 1 loss. Since joining the UFC ranks in 2023, Erceg has showcased his prowess with three consecutive victories. His most recent triumph, a devastating knockout of Matt Schnell in March, has further elevated his status as a rising star in the division.

Speaking on the UFC Fight Pass show Bancada, Pantoja expressed respect for his opponent, acknowledging Erceg's formidable skills and hunger for success. "He's a tough opponent," Pantoja remarked. "He's tougher than Royval and Moreno for me because he comes from down the rankings and he has nothing to lose. He's ranked No. 10 and is fresh in the division. The thing in my favor is that I'm more experienced in fighting, and that will be used by me in the octagon. I can't make mistakes or underestimate him because he hits hard."

In addition to the highly anticipated title clash, UFC 301 will feature two compelling matchups. In the middleweight division, Michel Pereira is set for a quick turnaround as he takes on Mahmud Muradov, while former title contender Karolina Kowalkiewicz will face off against Iasmin Lucindo in a strawweight bout.

Scheduled to take place on May 4 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, UFC 301 promises to deliver an unforgettable night of action, with Pantoja defending his flyweight crown on his native soil amidst a fervent crowd of supporters.
