Yan Xiaonan got a huge KO win over Jessica Andrade at UFC 288 and pushed her case for a UFC Strawweight title fight against Zhang Weili.
The Chinese MMA star got the win in the first round itself and was comfortable from the start of the fight. Andrade, meanwhile, seemed to be out of her comfort zone and was swinging without having any kind of success.
Andrade has spent the previous few years hopping between the strawweight and flyweight categories with mixed results after falling short of becoming a two-division UFC champion. Andrade most recently lost to Erin Blanchfield at 125 pounds. Andrade was returning to the division where she earned her first UFC title.
Yan has been a regular of the UFC's strawweight top 10 since joining in 2017 and was once on the verge of a championship opportunity in 2021 after putting together a six-fight winning streak. Back-to-back losses to Carla Esparza and Marina Rodriguez derailed those intentions, but with a rebound win over Mackenzie Dern in October, Yan might punch her ticket to a title opportunity with a huge win tonight.
With the win over Andrade, Yan could now setup a huge China vs. China showdown for the UFC Strawweight title as the title is now with Zhang Weili.
