Superlek Kiatmoo9 had a turbulent event week, but the ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion held his calm and retained his title at ONE Fight Night 8.
When his intended opponent, Rodtang Jitmuangnon, was forced to withdraw due to injury, "The Kicking Machine" had only days to prepare for a new opponent in Danial Williams.
Yet, on Friday, March 24, he provided an outstanding performance at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Following a measured start, Superlek turned up the heat on his Australian opponent to earn a third-round stoppage victory and a US$50,000 performance bonus.
The Thai star was overjoyed with the outcome because he had been under a lot of strain in the days running up to his maiden ONE World Title defence. He also thanked Danial Williams for stepping up
“I would like to thank Williams for accepting this fight last minute. He’s a very strong fighter. I respect his heart. I respect his courage. I have nothing to say except thank you very much,” he said in an interview with ONE Championship.
Superlek Kiatmoo9 can now look forward to new challenges after successfully defending his ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Title.
He is still keen to face Rodtang Jitmuangnon at some time in the future, which would surely be one of the most important fights in ONE Championship history. And "The Kicking Machine" vows to be ready once it happens.
“I do not have anyone specific in mind to defend my title. If the next one who will be challenging me for the belt in kickboxing is Rodtang, I am ready. Of course, I think I deserve to challenge him for the title. Rodtang is the number one in Muay Thai, so I would like to try that,” he added.
