Superlek Kiatmoo9, the ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion, has no intention of yielding to one of the world's most dreaded strikers.
The longstanding flyweight Muay Thai king Rodtang Jitmuangnon will be the opponent in the Thai superstar's first title defence at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video.
Fans are buzzing with anticipation as two sportsmen who are regarded as some of the best pound-for-pound strikers in the world square off on March 24 in primetime in the United States.
The representative of Kiatmoo9 Gym won his most recent contest, thrashing Daniel Puertas over five rounds at ONE Fight Night 6 in January, to claim the vacant ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Title and extend his winning streak to four fights.
Rodtang won a convincing kickboxing match on the same card, preparing him for his World Title bid.
Superlek is bursting with confidence despite being known as "The Iron Man" and has an unbeaten record in ONE Championship striking matches.
“I believe my kicks are better than his in kickboxing. First, I’m a little taller than him. Second, I think my leg movement is better than his in terms of speed. Every fighter has their own way of stepping. And I see Rodtang step clearly, like how he will punch and follow with a kick. So, I can predict his patterns clearly. Rodtang may hit hard, but he is slower than me. This should be my advantage,” Superlek noted in an interview with ONE Championship.
He further went on to note that he is not scared of Rodtang.
“Maybe this time he will come to me with less aggression. He is likely to be more careful. He may have plotted to prevent me from throwing my weapons. But I can guarantee no matter what style he uses on me, he’ll never scare me,” he added.
