Stella Hemetsberger has etched her name alongside combat sports royalty.
The Austrian striker claimed the ONE Women's Strawweight Kickboxing World Title at ONE Fight Night 40 on February 14, defeating Filipina-American Jackie Buntan via split decision in a thrilling five-round war.
The victory makes Hemetsberger only the third women's striker in ONE Championship history to capture World Titles in both Muay Thai and kickboxing, joining Stamp Fairtex and Janet Todd in that exclusive club.
Hemetsberger first claimed the strawweight Muay Thai crown last year, defeating Buntan via unanimous decision in their initial meeting. The rematch proved even more competitive, with judges split on the outcome after both athletes showcased elite striking prowess across 15 grueling minutes.
The emotions of achieving two-sport glory overwhelmed the newly crowned champion immediately following the final bell.
"I feel amazing. I'm feeling incredible. In other words, it just feels amazing, incredible. Very happy, very happy," Hemetsberger said.
The Austrian recognized the differences between her two encounters with Buntan. While knockdowns influenced the trajectory of their first fight, the kickboxing queen required her to showcase sustained excellence over the championship distance.
"It was a different fight from the first fight because in the first fight the knockdowns had a big influence in the fight, but I think in this fight I could show that over five rounds, I was the better fighter," Hemetsberger explained.
Her ability to adapt and overcome in both rule sets against the same dangerous opponent validates her status among the division's elite.
Now holding two ONE World Titles, Hemetsberger faces questions about potential challengers and future defenses. The double champ takes a measured approach to what lies ahead.
"I don't like to call out any names. I think anyone who will come along my way to fight me, to challenge me for the belt will be a strong challenge for sure. There are no easy fights as a champion. We'll see whatever comes," Hemetsberger said.
